Review Details

There are shelters and there are shelters. Some become big and cumbersome, lots of staff and layers of people in-between themselves and the dogs. Sometimes the real mission can be forgetten. Sometimes their size and breadth can cause a loss of focus on what is really important. Attention to the animals, not the filing of paperwork, or the balancing of the income statement, or the logging of useless information. Like the Big Corporations, they have grown too big, to far removed, to remember who they are and what they are here to do.

Not at Second Chance Animal Shelter. Spend just a little time there and what you will see is just simply different. Everyone from the Director, to the Board of Directors, to the vet staff to the everyday volunteers, focuses on what is important. The care, attention, and love of the animals. You won't see paid staff people in uniform, with name tags that announce their "Position" in the "Organization". You will only see volunteers who give every second of their time to see that the animals are cared for, given attention and just plain loved. Volunteers who do it all. Spend time playing in the yards, walking with the dogs, and making sure that they are always kept clean, fed and comfortable, making repairs, scrubing the floors, painting the walls, planting the flowers, pulling the weeds, checking applications, plowing the snow from the parking lot... whatever it takes.

This is a place where the love shows through. Not a "place of business" where dogs can be taken home for an adoption fee, but a place where dogs are placed only where they will be assured of a loving, caring, and forever home. A place where an adopter becomes part of the "Family". A place where our "homeless friends" can rest assured that they have a forever home where they can be loved and love back. Something they deserve more than we can ever imagine.
This is a Rescue Shelter.... not just a place for dogs to be housed..... Make no mistake about it.

I agree with you.
What an awesome review !!! I couldn't agree more, especially about the staff that has a name tag anouncing their importance. The important part is the animal and the caring volunteers who help them.
