Review Details

My first adoption experience with Second Chance was a number of years ago when I discovered the shelter on the web and found the perfect pet for my parents when I was living with them. My parents have "Keeta" (aka Nikita) to this day and she is wonderful. I had my second experience today with the shelter when my wife and I adopted Garrett, a 5 6 year-old German Shepherd! The Shelter staff, especially Sheryl and Joe are wonderful for all that they do to properly match animals with forever homes. They have all of the bases covered at Second Chance and have the interest of the animals as their number one priority. I can't write enough to describe Second Chance, so you should stop in during their public hours just to say hello. The staff are super friendly and will make your adoption experience so wonderful that you will surely be back again!

Nick, Thanks for giving some of our pets their second chances :) and for the great review - and welcome to the zootoo family also !
Thank you! I'm glad that we have such a great resource so close to home!
Thanks Nick! You got an awesome dog! Garrett is a love!
I am glad to see that Nick D. & Hill adopted a wonderful family member. I have also adopted a wonderful Greyhound "Brandi" from SCAS and she is the most loving and smart "kid". She is our 11th animal companion in our growing family. Hear's to you ND & HD to your new "kid"...all the best with your new pup...they will give you the best memories of your life!
My experience with SCAS started in '07 when I took the plunge to start my search again for a Greyhound. For the past 11 years that I lived in MA- I had tried several times to adopt retired racers from several Greyhound rescue leagues to be turned down for various reasons ("you live in a townhouse and don't have adequate back yard", "you work long hours", "you have cats"). Finally 11 years later-I tried for my final attempt and low & behold, SCAS/Becker College gave me a shot. It was a very thorough adoption process which I found admirable. Since we live in a "disposable" society, I found it very refreshing to have an organization care enough about the animals to put such man-power into an adoption process. Well, after 24 hours my app got accepted and you would have thought I won the lottery! Now - I know how "human" adoption parents my feel! I was so excited my thoughts were racing....what will he/she look like?? Which room should I make the "bedroom", I need to pick out toys...hhmmm- squeaky- rubber- maybe they prefer soft music instead of loud toys? What a great adventure we had in our the adoption process. Then- the best weekend of all started...we had a "week-end" sleep-over. She came into our life in mid-May '07 on a Friday evening. I picked her up at Becker- she was so excited and probably scared. Never stayed O/N in a "real house".
Brandi: We walked to the park and I met my new sister "Peaches" a really cute Beagle. She sniffed me up & down & was fine. I had an OK night- the first nite is the hardest but once you get thru it...then it's a piece of cake. My parents treat me like royalty. Actually all of us (all 11 kids) are treated like Kings & Queens.
From Brandi's standpoint: I have SCAS & Becker College to thank for the wonderful adoption process. It really was a piece of cake (with ice cream)!!

Nick, Thanks so much for your kind words regarding Second Chance. I was smilling this morning when I came to volunteer and found that Garrett had gone to his forever home. You have a wonderful, sweet dog in Garrett, congratulations.
