The Humane Society of Central Washington, SPCA is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving and protecting the animals of Yakima County. Our mission is to end animal suffering and cruelty, reduce animal overpopulation, and educate the public regarding responsible pet ownership while promoting community kindness and commitment to their welfare. We practice and promote the Humane treatment of animals through animal control services, pet adoption, education, information, referral and quality animal care.

The Humane Society of Central Washington/SPCA is currently located at 2405 W. Birchfield Rd (right off of Nob Hill Blvd. across from K-Mart down by the Arboretum) in Yakima. We are open Monday through Saturday from 12 pm. – 5 pm. Incorporated in 1906, our Humane Shelter has been operating as a non-profit 501-(c)(3) organization at its current location since 1983.

We offer educational oportunities for local schools to educate the youth regarding responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals in our community.

The Humane Society of Central Washington has partnered with local rescue organizations and animal control to form a Spay and Neuter Coalition for Yakima County. The Spay & Neuter Assistance Program(SNAP) was first implemented in 2005 thanks to a generous grant of $10,000 from the Yakama Nation Legends Casino in Toppenish, Washington. A dedicated group of individuals came together to help reduce the overwhelming amount of litters being born in Yakima County. The coalition consists of The Humane Society of Central Washington, Barks R' Us Rescue, Pawsitive Alliance, Yakima Valley Pet Rescue, Yakima County Animal Control, & the Yakama Nation Housing Authority.

Very caring

posted 5 years ago

They really seem to care about the animals there. I have been there to walk dogs several times and the people who work there are always happy to see me. I was there for the shot/microchip event that was held last October and was impressed by how smoothly it ran, even if it was a little bit of a wait in line.

Pros: Great employees

Cons: Not enough space

Love to volunteer here

I have been volunteering here for a couple of months and I have to say that this is a wonderful Humane Society. I love going in and playing with the animals. I know it makes them happy to see a smiling face and get rubbed on the head.

Pros: Fun

Great place to get all your pet supplies. Love to fact that we can reuse the container for our kitty litter and just refill it.

It is a good place if you are looking to go shopping for your pet, but the distance for me isn't worth it.
