PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AFTER REGISTERING TO WRITE A SMALL REVIEW ABOUT OUR SHELTER. THE MORE SUPPORTERS WE HAVE THAT DO THIS, THE MORE POINTS WE EARN! THANKS SO MUCH! We are a nonprofit organization. We have a membership of approximately 1,100 and growing. We are volunteer ran. We currently care for and find good homes for over 600 animals per year. Over 99% of the animals that come to us get adopted. All of the animals over 4 months old are altered prior to adoption. We provide education to the community regarding responsible pet ownership. We are also available to Animal Control should an emergency situation arise where we needed to assist. We are also trying to get our spay/neuter certificate program back up and running, where we provide financial relief to low income pet owners to alter their pets.

Tuolumne County Humane Society -- GRRRRRRRRREAT!

posted 5 years ago

I adopted my dog here 9 years ago. She was a 1-yr. old stray, a mix of Malamute & Pit Bull. She's a beauty, sweet (unless you happen to be a squirrel, cat or deer in which case 'chase' is on), & smart. My son trained her as his Senior Project in high school.

The shelter was clean & well organized. I was able to take several dogs out to a large pen where I could throw a ball and see how they'd react. The dogs were well labeled: the cage of one said "excellent for an elderly person", and sure enough that dog did not want to chase the ball. Another said, "Lots of energy", and that dog was very excitable & energetic. My dog, Baby, was "just right" for us.

The shelter asked a lot of questions to be sure we'd provide a good home for Baby, and followed up with us to see how she was doing one week, two weeks & a month later. They provided me a coupon for a discounted spaying. Then they even used my son in a public service announcement on our local cable channel talking about the adjustment the dog & the owners must make.

I was so impressed with the Shelter and so pleased to know we had such a service available in our small rural community in the Sierra Nevadas. They were truly interested in the welfare of their animals and finding them good homes. That's why I think they're GRRRRRRRRRREAT!

Pros: Run by very devoted volunteers who love animals

Cons: none
