Austin/Travis County Animal Services - Town Lake Animal Center

I adopted my dog (dachshund mini mix) from them in December 2009. After filling out the adoption form, I didn't particularly find the staff to be too helpful. I asked some staff if there were any dachshunds and they stated that they did not know...I'm sure it's not going to take them much effort to look it up on the computer in front of them. I needed to go to work and was unable to look at all the dogs at the shelter. I located a couple of dachshunds on their website on my home computer and went to check them out the next day. I placed my interest in the dachshunds (2 of them) and set up a meet and greet on Monday. I was told that they would officially become the property of the city on Monday and that even though I was first on the list, if I did not saw up on time on Monday for the meet and greet I would lose my place. I was also told that the dachshunds had no medical conditions. When I arrived on Monday, I was told that one of the dogs had ringworms. Also, it seemed as if alot of the dogs there had Kennel cough. I paid $75 to adopt her. The $75 fee includes microchipping, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and a collar. When I picked up my dog, the staff forgot to provide me with my dog's medication (antibiotics since she had just been spayed)! I had just gotten to the car when I realized I had not been given her medication. I had to drag my poor dog back through the cold. She definitely did not like walking around in the cold and refused to leave the warm shelter again to go back to the car.

townlake is a great place for austin. i just wish there was more people who could help this place more often. its a wonderful thing they are doing for these pets. just keep up the good work guys.
