A Thankless Job

posted 5 years ago

I have read the comments of people who call themselves pet lovers. If that were so, would they not understand that inorder for a shelter to take care of the animals properly they need an intake fee. All or most shelters I have been to ask for more than $10.00. This money is a drop in a bucket..This shelter feeds & cares for over 80 cats, which use litter (400 pds a week) food (150 pds a week). They get sick and go to the veternarian. The dogs go through 450 pds of dog food a week. The cats and the workers like to have a heated building, so thus a electric bill...cleaning supplies..etc. The shelter is funded only by donations and sales at the thrift store. They are not state or city funded.
The shelter has only two fulltime volunteers, I bet they are getting pretty tired. If you want to help out at a shelter that deserves a make-over go ask what you can do!!
This shelter is USDA inspected and is doing the best it can with the help it has.
This is a no-kill shelter, so if they are full they cannot take animals that they have no room for. That is just part of being a no-kill shelter!
Set aside your feelings and do whats right for the animals!

Good Shelter? Bad Shelter?

posted 5 years ago

This is a great shelter and im just trying to get the word out about it because not to many people are very interested in animals. I was told that someone once dropped some cats off there and left them for the shelter to take care of. The shelter is GREAT. Everyone there is very nice. They even built a rolling pair of wheels for a cat with paralyzed back legs. They really care about their animals and they are always full so come by and adopt some. It would really help.

Thier used to be two cats that were brothers and they looked alike and they lovd to sit on peoples shoulders and A wowmen addopted one but the cat she addopted was sad that his brother was not with him so she addopted his brother. Then every one was happy.

Pros: They combined the shelter with a thrift shop to help raise money to get new things for the cats. Never put any cats down. Are very nice people.

Cons: I really can't think of any.

Good Volunteers are the key to a clean and successful shelter.

posted 5 years ago

W.P. Regional Animal Shelter has a great policy concerning the life of an animal. " It is not up to us to decide which animal should live or die" By euthanizing one so another can live is playing the roll of God and that is not our job.
They are dedicated to helping orphaned and injured animals have a better quality of life untill it is time to go to a good home or over the rainbow bridge!
Great Job!

Spaying and neutering is the key to the pet over- population. Just think of all the dogs and cats that are sleeping in a cold corner of a building or snuggled under drain pipe. They were tossed out or left behind when not wanted. Please spay and neuter your pets.

Pros: Dedicated to the wellfare of the animals.

Cons: The shelter needs more volunteers !

Give them a hand!!

posted 5 years ago

They do a wonderful job with what they have! There's not a nicer, more caring bunch of people around. The shelter has always been neat and tidy. With 80 cats or more, it's hard to keep it smelling good, but they try their hardest! The job is never ending, but they keep on taking care of things because they care.

Pros: great location, nice building, caring volunteers

Cons: needs help

Voluteering

posted 5 years ago

Volunteering is hard work, and I know they need volunteers badly. When you Visit a shelter you only see the cats and dogs playing, not how long it took to get them all cleaned up.
Shelters need your help to keep all the cats & dogs happy. So help West Plains Regional Animal Shelter win a make-over so the animals have a better home.
The shelter staff has given their lives for the animal for almost 11 years. They deserve to be rewarded for their efforts.

I'm still a hard working voluteer at the West Plains animal shelter. They are in need of voluteers! So come on over and help me take care of all the homeless animals.
We are crowded and no place to put the cats and dogs. We need your help to win this makeover!!!

Pros: Nice,clean,and hardworkers

Cons: No cons.
