St. Louis County Animal Control South / Shelter

Back in 2003, I wanted to surprise my mom with a dog for Mother's Day. Most shelters look down upon this and will not adopt out to someone looking to gift an animal. Well, I adopted out a pathetic looking 8-year-old Pomeranian from Saint Louis Animal Control . My mom was shocked by her gift, but 6 years later Violet is a part of the family and a perfect little lap dog!
Since adopting Violet, I have been back to the animal control center to look at the dogs. The dogs are precious, and it breaks my heart to know that the greater majority of them will not find homes. (At least that's what I perceive). I wish more people would consider Saint Louis Animal Control when adopting there dog or cat! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly- they want these animals to find good homes!

Pros: adorable animals in need of homes

Cons: limited space, animals are not held for very long

hopefully this shelter will get the money they need to run this facility to its potential
