Friends of MI Animals Rescue is a non-profit 501 C 3 no kill dog and cat shelter run by dedicated volunteers that is growing and going places. Our goal is to help our local animal control facilities reduce euthanasia by taking adoptable dogs and cats and finding new forever homes for them. FMAR started in April 2003 with a dream and a mission to protect animals and residents by promoting a healthy and safe environment for all. Currently we have a 1200 square ft. shelter with 9 dog kennels and an open cat area that comfortably holds a minimum of 25 cats. We are working with a local high school to add a restroom, office and storage to the existing building. In addition to adding onto our current shelter, we are actively raising money to renovate an 8400 square foot barn that will house 28 dogs and 7 times as many cats. We also have a promise of a new building that will allow us to separate the dogs and cats and improve our isolation area. We are licensed by both our township and the state of Michigan.
The president Pete LaFramboise is retired and working full time at the shelter where he does the vet running, filling the kennels and daily chores of the shelter along with our volunteers. Marcy LaFramboise continues to work to support the shelter and joins Pete and the evening volunteers to vaccinate, microchip, test and data entry. Without our volunteers and supporters FMAR would not exist. We love our community and are dedicated to growing FMAR so we can continue to help animals in need and educate the public on pet care and leadership.
Thank you all for your continued and loving support. Board of directors of Friends of MI Animals Rescue.

Angels for animals

I found my friend "Wilton" online; who is a special needs cat. After the first phone call to Pete, we stayed in touch by email, until I could arrange a meeting (because I live in Eastpointe). I met with them and Wilton. They were wonderful people and so understanding, patient and kind. I had already filled out the application and was approved so when it was apparent that Wilton had taken to me, we went home. He is the light of my life and I just love Pete and Marcy. If I ever decide to look for another addition to my family, I will look to them for a "wee one" that I may help.

Even though I live in Eastpointe, I love this Rescue organization in Belleville, I think they are #1. They are clean, gentle, truely caring and loving with their rescued animals. They also handle special needs friends which my baby was one of them. Wilton and I were made for each other. We are Zen soulmates. I would drive a 100 miles and more to offer my help and support to them.
Pros: Just Like Family
Cons: Couldn't find anything wrong

Pete and Marcy work tirelessly to keep this place running, and it shows. Their volunteers are all very dedicated, and the animals are all so healthy. It especially impresses me that they have close relationships with vets and trainers to make sure the animals are ready for families.
Pros: a great no-kill shelter
Cons: can't find any
