Indianapolis Animal Care & Control

The rescue I volunteer for pulls animals almost soley from IACC. The people there are absolutely wonderful. They have big hearts and really care for the animals. Although they are the pound and take in strays, police confiscations, and owner surrenders, they get the most wonderful animals and a remarkable number of purebreds. We get the cutest terrier mixes there--in fact, my Elwood came from there! They are wonderful wonderful wonderful! Plus you can adopt a cat or dog, spayed and neutered, etc. for only $60 there!
In addition, they're working very hard to lower their euthanasia rate by sending dogs that pass temp tests but are less appealing here in Indiana like Beagle mixes and such on transports to the East Coast! This is unheard of for a pound. They're really a great place!

Pros: Wonderful animals, well lit, safe, cleanest I've seen!

Cons: They're the pound, so they aren't no-kill, but they're taking great strides to lower their numbers like doing transports and releasing to rescues!

I love this place!! I volunteer here and enjoy every minute of it. The animals are soooo much fun and the staff is so caring. Our volunteer cooridinator is the most patient and knowledgeable person I know! He is great!! The shelter is working on alot of new ideas that revolve solely around the health and happiness of the animals! How cool is that??? I am very happy and proud to be associated with such a great shelter! Keep up the good work IACC!!!
