Interesting facts about The League for Animal Welfare:
*The League for Animal Welfare is a no-kill non-profit animal shelter that has been around since 1949.
*We receive absolutely no government support and run our shelter through kind donations along with membership dues, bequests, contributions and fundraisers.
*Except for a small paid staff, all efforts are carried out by volunteers.
*We at the League for Animal Wefare dedicate ourselves to bettering the lives of Greater Cincinnati Companion animals by providing shelter, adoption, spay/neuter programs, and public education.
*While animals are here waiting to be adopted we provide food, shelter and a very loving environment.
*All of the animals we adopt out are given any necessary vaccinations before going home (this includes heartworm testing for dogs and feline leukemia and FIV testing for cats) and all are spayed or neutered.
*We have placed approximately 700 dogs and cats in loving homes each year and we have seen an increase in adoptions this past year!

I have been a silent supporter of the League for Animal Welfare for a few years now. I can't get in there like I would like to but I am always welcomed at any and all functions. The first thing I notice is that the animals are so cared for. That to me is FIRST on the list of being a shelter. They are always courtious and helpful. They keep their place very clean and under control. Out of all the animal shelters in my area, I definitely put them at the top of the list! Thank you LFAW for all you do for the animals!
Pros: Healthy animals, they care deeply about their animals, friendly staff, they make sure their animals are placed with the RIGHT home
Cons: Not enough people to volunteer

I have know about and been with the League for Animal Welfare for a short time now, but in that short time I have seen how wonderful the organization is and how helpful they are to local dogs and cats who are unwanted until they get here. Here at the shelter the animals are the number one priority...the adoption counselors try to match animals with the right people on many different dimensions. They truly care about the animals here and I know a lot of shelters may say that (and I don't deny that they do care) but you can feel it as soon as you step into our shelter, as soon as you talk to one of the staff or volunteers here.
The set-up of the shelter is wonderful as well. The dogs have nicely sized runs that have an indoor and outdoor area and they also have kuranda beds that are raised off of the ground. The cats are together among various "cat rooms" for social purposes and it's a very nice environment to walk into.
I couldn't say enough great things about this shelter...the animals are put first and they do all they can to make their stay here (of course the hope is to adopt them out to loving homes) as enjoyable as possible as opposed to scary, frightening, etc. The dogs go on walks on part of the League's 20 acres and the cats have sun rooms where they can watch birds come to the bird feeder, as well as other fun critters to watch. There are also play yards to let the dogs socialize in as well as an agility course run by our trainer, which helps build confidence in dogs who come in with low confidence.
I could go on and on about how great this organization is because I simply can't think of a thing that I don't like about it (besides that fact that they have limited space, like every other shelter, and can't help every animal possible...but that's the case for every shelter). We have had so many compliments from people coming in the shelter that I know that this is the best place to be...people have even said if they were an animal in a shelter this is where they would want to be and that says a lot!
Pros: Caring people, great facility, wonderful trainer, a new adoption vehicle on the way
Cons: None I can think of :)
