The Knox County Humane Society, founded in 1887, relies on the generosity of volunteers and donors to fulfill its mission of promoting adoption, spay & neuter, and the humane treatment of companion animals.
KCHS operates a non-profit, no-kill shelter in Knox County, Ohio. KCHS serves both animals and their caregivers by providing adoption services, a pet pantry, and low-cost spay/neuter clinics to the community. Adoptable animals can be found on our website at www.knoxhumanesociety.org or by visiting the Humane Society located at 400 Columbus Rd, Mount Vernon OH.
About Our Programs:
Our Cat Shelter has a unique homelike environment. The adoption areas are floor-to-ceiling rooms with toys and comfortable beds, no cages. Access to an enclosed outside run gives the cats fresh air daily. This community living style keeps the cats healthy and happy.
Our Canine Rescue Program selects dogs from the Knox County Dog Shelter. The Humane Society works in cooperation with the county facility, but is a separate non profit organization. KCHS Volunteers transport these dogs to rescue groups located all over Ohio and even as far away as Michigan, New England, and the Canadian border. KCHS staff and volunteers ensure the dogs are exercised, socialized, and cared for until transport to a rescue group.
Our Community Spay and Neuter Clinics provide low-cost options for Knox County residents. All fees must be paid in advance and an appointment must be made. Please call the Humane Society at (740)392-2287 for more info. Fees for cats are: Female - $35 & Male - $25. Fees for dogs are: Under 40 lbs - $60.00, 41-75 lbs. - $75.00, & Over 75 lbs. - $95.00.
Our Pet Pantry Program provides cat and dog food to families who may otherwise be unable to care for their pets during times of financial difficulty. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Interchurch at 740-397-4825 to learn more about this program.

Nice bunch of folks

I have worked with Knox County Humane Society for over 6 years. Once our shelter got straightened around and was placing several dogs and expanded our prison program, I had pulled a few dogs from them. Or if they had a really nice dog who needed the training, I would rescue it and put it in the prison program.
I know their volunteers go above and beyond to help the animals. One volunteer whom I worked closely with was Peggy. I know there were several times, she made trips to the east coast states with a van load of dogs/puppies to several shelters and rescues out there.
What a group of folks.
Pros: Nice, reliable
