My Pet Jada

posted 4 years ago

When I first moved to Tallahassee, the first place I decided to visit was the Tallahassee Leon-County Animal Service Center (shelter). The problem was finding it in the telephone book-it has a name that wasn't listed under the word 'shelter' for some reason. Lucky for me, my neighbor is involved and when she saw me and my 17 year old little dog, Buddy, walking around our neighborhood, she jumped at the opportunity to tell me about a place I could volunteer, and find a 'home' in a new neighborhood. My first day volunteering was great. So great, that I came home with the opportunity of new friendship for my old dog, who really needed some friend to 'spark' him up when his arthritis or vision was bothering him. Some time later, I was introducing Jada to Buddy, who was by that time very ill, and not eating. Having Jada around for him was good. He got to approve his new sister and enjoyed watching her, and she was very respectful of his place in our home. It's been love all around, and even though Buddy passed on, he passed on gently, and happily. He was at our vet office in my lap, and we didn't need to help him to go to heaven. He went all by himself. Jada knew we were grieving and in time has turned into an inspiration for us to adopt two more dogs. Now we are a three-dog family. All are adopted.

Pros: This is a wonderful place with attentive caring staff

Cons: list under 'shelters' in 'yellow pages' more animals need to be adopted!
