Humane Society of Savanah

This is the first shelter I volunteered in Savannah. They have a volunteer orientation and then the rest is up to you. I have a changing schedule, so I pop in when I can and bathe or walk the dogs.

They also take in cats, hamsters and rabbits. The cats have a nice enclosure and can see outside. Some are in large groups. Some are in cages.

The animals that are on the floor are also there until they are adopted. So there is no chance of you going back to have found your dog euthanized which is important to me mentally. The dogs need walkers to volunteer their time to stretch their legs. An avid runner visits weekly and takes a couple dogs for a run.

Pros: nice shelter, clean, open air, animals well taken care of, use shot to euthanize

Cons: Could use more space, better bedding to get animals off concrete, had trouble with gas chamber
