I called the office and asked if the Lab/hound mix grey and white puppy was available and was told that it was. I asked if they could hold it for me and they said no "first come first serve." I asked if I could call periodically on my long hour drive to ensure that the puppy would still be there. Once I was given the o.k I was on the road. I called several times assured that the puppy was there with three different people up to the minute I got off the highway. I arrived and informed the front desk person I was here for the Lab/Hound mix grey and white puppy. As we proceeded to walk to the back I and my family were consumed with the worst smell, there was dry blood on the floor and many of the pets that were on the website that were not visible in the kennel. Many of the dogs cages were filled with feces as well as one that was stepping in it. After several trips back and forth in the kennel and out, the front desk person asked someone the location of the pup ( for the second time) while waiting another person said that the puppy was sold hours ago. Then a third employee said that I talked to them once, and they were busy cleaning in the back thought the pup was there and was sorry. So after a long drive to and from and disappointed by the entire experience, I wish I could have had a similar experiences as the other pet owners who posted positive outcomes, and who ever reads this and chooses to get there pups from this shelter I hope your experience is better than mine. I only left with half a tank less of gas and pet less and an apology.

Cons: Attention to detail

I have worked with them both on a personal and professional level. Over the years I have adopted a few dogs from Rockdale Animal Control. I also used to do dog rescue and this is where most of my fosters came from. The staff are very much animal lovers and the do their best to save as many animals as possible. Any time you have a question or need they are very friendlay and knowledgeable. As long as I live in Rockdale I will continue to use their services.

Pros: they do their best to save every animal that enters their doors.

Cons: You can't save them all

THEY ARE A VERY NICE GROUP OF PEOPLE TO WORK WITH. THEY ARE VERY CONCERNED WITH ANIMAL WELFARE AS WELL AS EDUCATED THE PUBLC.

I adopted both of my dogs from them. They are very friendly intelligent people. The shelter is also kept nice and clean.
