The Humane Society of Parkersburg is an advocate for all animals, striving to foster humane treatment and to prevent cruelty and abuse. We provide animal control for our community while offering a shelter for homeless cats and dogs. Working with our community through education we strive to inspire compassion and respect for all living things, while stressing the importance of spaying and neutering and the value of the adoption of homeless animals.
Major short-term and long-term goals include:
Expanding our facilities to permit separate housing for cats and dogs.
Addition of a spay/neuter clinic to offer low cost spay/neuter services to our community.
Increase awareness of the pet overpopulation problem and the importance of spaying and neutering
Expanding our education program.
Improve the health of animals in our care through procedural changes, medical protocols, and facility improvements.

A wonderful Experience
posted 4 years ago
I adopted my dog, Caramel, from the Shelter back in August and it's the best thing I've ever done. She is absolutely the best dog ever as are most shelter dogs. The staff was caring and considerate, willing to answer questions and they do their utmost best to place the animals in the best home possible. When I'm ready for a new family member, I will be going back to the Shelter. It's sad to see so many unwanted animals due to human irresponsiblity. The Shelter offers all kinds of educational information and assistance to help people be responsible. They are a great resource.
Pros: Concerned about the animals, friendly, educated, honest
Cons: Application process is slow, but I would guess due to volume

I have so much loyality to this shelter. They were responsible for the 1000 dog rescue at the Puppy mill in Aug 08 and that is where my little Ginny came from. With two wonderful shelters so close to each other Pburg and Marietta are only 10 mins apart. We need this so bad in this area and both are so deserving.
