HSDC is a small, out dated animal shelter. Pictured is the little brick building which is the front office. On the back are a total of 23 dog kennels. Within the dog kennel area there are two very small cat rooms. The Cat Lab holds 9 cages and the Cat Room holds 15. In addition to the two rooms, we have a barn shaped shed we call the Cat Sanctuary. The cats that are allowed to go in and out of this structure are all spay and neutered. Unlike the other Animal Shelters on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Dorchester County's has not been funded enough to enable us to relocate to a better location and build a new, state of the art shelter for the animals of this County. It is the hope and dream of many invovled that this become a reality and we can have a shelter that will handle more animals in a better environment!!! Please help us obtain this goal and vote for our shelter to receive the "Shelter Makeover ". Thank you! The HSDC Shelter Staff

I think we have a great shelter considering what we have to work with. The people working there are very knowledgeable on all the animals and work very hard to get them adopted as well as fostered out. They have even gotten a couple of businesses in this small town to take in cats at their establishments which is great exposure for the animal. All things are possible and I sure hope that we get a bigger facility. Everyone just needs to reach a little further into their pockets and give. I know that this is not a great time for asking but remember you could be saving a life of our human animals and they are all human beings.

Pros: Wonderful Staff, Great Friends and such loving animals

Cons: We need a bigger shelter to accommodate the amount of animals we are taking in these days. We can only foster so many!
