I see their Pet Adoption trailer many times when our shelter is at PetSmart in Greensburg on Saturdays. This is a very hard working committed group.

PAL in Yukon PA is a non-profit no kill shelter. I started volunteering there a few weeks ago and am truly impressed. I wish we had more people coming out to the shelter to volunteer their time with the shelter animals. Barb, the owner is a true animal lover who wants nothing but the best possible home for her furry friends. She and the other volunteers give all they can to support these animals by trying to care for them and place them in loving and permanent homes. I truly enjoy spending time with the furry ones and the volunteers. How many shelter owners/managers actually have the shelter on their property and live with the task of helping the animals 24/7? Not many that I know of.....that's true dedication!

Pros: People who truly care about the welfare of the animals

Cons: Shelter is not big enough and needs some updating

I've heard good and bad things about this shelter. For me, it's hard to hear the "bad" things. This shelter is saving the lives of homeless pets everyday of the year. They work with almost nothing to achieve results. Thank you for the work you do and the lives you save. It does not go unnoticed at all. Good luck in this contest, you're not as far away as you say. I also would like to give kudos for educating on the benefits of adopting "senior" pets. I could not agree with your feelings on that more. I have a special place in my heart for senior cats and dogs as well.

I'm sorry, but after seeing your picture and the caption "who wouldnt love a puppy for Christmas" I had to say something.

Perhaps you are not aware of what a terrible gift idea a puppy is. Perhaps you dont know that shelters are overwhelmed with "Christmas puppies" a few weeks to months after these "gifts" lose their cuteness.

Your own shelter statement talks about the importance of adopting an older dog, yet I see you pushing these puppies for Christmas. I really wish people wouldnt do this, and as a shelter you should be more aware of the potential for problems when people adopt animals to give as a "gift".

I have been volunteering with PAL for about a year now and have just about seen it all. My love for animals is what drives me to work so hard and dedicate my time in helping these animals stay healthy and happy in our shelter. I'm only 16 and the things I can do are limited but I do what I can, with the help of many amazing volunteers along with me. I am the youngest of them all but I give up my weekends to go up to PetsMart/shelter to clean, walk, feed, water, bathe, and anything else that needs to be done, and none of this would be possible without Barb--the founder. Please join us and help us win that 1million$ makeover, which is so desperately needed! We are not funded by the state in anyway and all of our money comes from the kind people in the public that donate money to us and for that I must thank you. I am in a club at my school called Paws 4 a Cause and we have raised a lot of money for the shelter's heating bill over the winter months!! We are a great shelter with many hardworking volunteers but we need more of you to join us in this! I am DETERMINED to win this!
