Freeport animal shelter has become one of the best shelters on long island. This place is run by rescue people who have spent their entire lives caring for stray and unwanted animals. In the last year so many improvements have been made that people are invited to come down and see. OUr cats are not in cages but have their own runs with cat trees, beds and toys.
They have enlarged several dog runs so the dogs can have more space to run free. In the summer small pools are put in each dog run.
They are a 501C that is run strictly on donations. One of the board members has donated her life savings to keep this shelter going. How much more love can someone give.
The empoloyees that work there and the volunteers that are there every day show nothing but love and compassion for all of the animals. It does not matter whether it is a dog, cat bird hamster,or anything else that comes into the shelter. Once that animal entes the doors of Freeeport is becomes loved by all.
This is a shelter that we wish you would come and visit. You can see all the changes made in just the past year.
Since it is the time of the year for giving, we ask you if you can help us. All donations are tax deductable and sorely needed.

Who is this shelter for and what are they doing?

a staff member turned away two new born kittens stating that there wasn't any room. when ask about other shelters that might take them the staff member said that all others are full, a complete lie, told by what seems to be a lazy staff member! 1)There is no data base available to tell you how full other shelters are and 2) there are plenty of shelters that will take in kittens in the middle of the winter! In long island Hempstead animal shelter, in Wantagh and in the north shore as well. North shore Animal league as well would.
They receive an animal and adopt it out without any investigation on the animal or the new owners. All they care about is the money they receive, not the well being of the animal.
Pros: roof over stray animals in the winter
Cons: It's a business, non-profit tax write off

Ollie the Ferret
posted 4 years ago
These people have stolen my friends ferret - Ollie. Ollie went missing under the care of a pet sitter while the owners were on vacation. When the owners got back they finally tracked Ollie down. The people from Freeport Animal Shelter said one of their employees took Ollie home. Grateful and happy that he was safe my friends offered a reward and asked to pick him up right away. FAS said they would call their employee and have her bring Ollie back to the shelter to be picked up the next day. When my friend went to pick him up, FAS said that their "EMPLOYEE" decided to adopt him and that they could not have him back! They said he was allowed to be adopted after 5 days - my friends - the owners - called to have him picked up on the 4th day! This place will be sued and shutdown if Ollie does not get returned to his rightful owners! Please join me and many others in flooding FAS with emails and phone calls.
Pros: None
Cons: Many
