North Shore Animal League America's mission begins with a proactive approach to saving lives. On a regional level, when we heard that the lives of puppies and kittens in adjoining areas were in jeopardy, we began sending out rescue vans to save them. Our rescue vans routinely visit shelters in the New York metropolitan area, rescue the puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats that may never make it to the adoption floor, and bring them to the safety of our no-kill Adoption Center. But our lifesaving effort doesn’t stop there. This program also facilitates the rescue of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens from overcrowded animal organizations in other states, including North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The love North Shore Animal League America has for every pet entrusted in our care is reflected in our immaculate, state-of-the-art Adoption Center. Open every day, the center houses approximately 350 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. To ensure successful, caring adoptions, trained counselors assist in the application process; answer questions new adoptive parents may have, and supply them with phone numbers of our medical and training departments. All adopters are encouraged to attend our free orientation classes. NSAL America is available all day, every day to make sure all adoptions are happy and healthy ones.
In addition to rescuing and restoring homeless animals to loving homes, NSAL America has worked to make the world a safer, friendlier, healthier place for animals in need. NSAL America’s Volunteer team supports our Humane Education and Pet Outreach programs-- both help to demonstrate the value of the human-animal bond. As NSAL America looks to the future, we know that with commitment and dedication we can continue to make an important difference in the lives of animals everywhere.
Thankfully, there are animal lovers that are willing to help the League by involving themselves in our many giving donor programs. If you can’t adopt a pet into your home, you can still adopt a pet into your heart! The Sponsor programs were initiated for those who wish to donate on a long-term basis for animals with medical or behavioral problems that require constant care, animal lovers can help support one or more of our long-term residents by contributing a pledged amount on a regular basis. An additional giving program entitled Help Me Heal allows individuals and organizations to target donations to a specific Medical Center patient. Conducted completely on our web site.
NSAL America has also created the Surviving Pet Care Program (SPC) to help ensure a safe and loving future environment for your pets. When you enroll your animals in the League’s SPC Program, you can have peace of mind knowing that your pets will be loved and cared for here at our shelter and medical center until we find just the right home where they will be as loved and cherished as they were in your care. Many kind supporters of North Shore Animal League remember us in their wills, thus enabling us to continue our mission into the future. Sadly, the following friends of the League have recently left us, but their legacy lives on to save the lives of homeless pets.

NSAL America does a great job
posted 4 years ago
I am very impressed with the way NSAL helps animals across the country with their national campaigns about pets. They are getting ready to kick off one of the largest Pet Adoptathons ever. They also do an excellent job of educating pet owners and potential pet owners about the best way to take care of animals.
Pros: Are excellent at bringing attention to animal welfare
Cons: Nothing

This shelter is great. The staff members are great and love it there. They are also very knowledgable. I wish the place can be bigger so there is more room to help these poor animals.
Pros: Great place for Puppies and Kittens
Cons: Not enough room for all the cutie pies.
