The Humane Society of Blooming Grove is a not for profit animal shelter, located in mid-Orange County NY - we are relatively small, but what we lack in size we make up for with a big reputation for being the one of the best. And here's why:
-HSBG has a lot of heart - while our dogs and cats are housed here, waiting for permanent homes, we treat them like our own. They get the best of care and a lot of love and that's why people keep coming back to us. Our own "whisperer" is on premises most days to work with and socialize the dogs, we have and a staff and volunteers who go above and beyond each and every day.
-Our policy is to spay/neuter animals before they are adopted to ensure 100% compliance - we are zealous when it comes to preventing overpopulation.
-We work very closely with local police depts and sheriff's dept to report and pursue animal cruelty cases - we have a "zero tolerance" point of view.
-We go outside the shelter and work in conjunction with local petstores at "Adoptathons" to promote the shelter animals and introduce them to the public. Our outreach efforts are escalating.
-We recently scheduled a Behavioral Clinic to assist the public with any problems they have been experiencing with pets and it was a great success.
-We had a Rabies Clinic for dogs and cats, no charge - donations only.
-We are involved with our community and they are involved with us - we've enlisted the help of local Scout troops and high school volunteers to work at the shelter and at fundraisers
-We have introduced a new "Seniors for Seniors" program, reducing adoption fees for people over 62 who will give good homes to senior animals.

We are small but successful, and as the population of the County grows, so does the number of animals we see at this shelter. We hope to expand and grow in order to accommodate as many as we can. Animals are not destroyed because they have stayed too long (this only means we have to try harder), and our policies are never 'breed specific' - we love 'em all! I hope everyone supports our efforts and does what they can - it's all for the animals!

Clean shelter, good people

posted 6 years ago

I volunteered as a dog walker at this shelter a few times (had to stop bc it was too far from my house). Everyone was very nice and cared a lot for the animals. I would contact this shelter if i was looking to adopt a pet.

Pros: Good location, knowledgable and caring staff

Cons: none
