Centrally located in Union Square's Petco superstore, KittyKind Pet Adoption and Rescue Center is a no-kill shelter that has found homes for many needy cats and kittens over the years. KittyKind does not believe in rescuing animals only to euthanize them. So if the staff cannot find a home for the cats who are brought to the center, KittyKind provides them with a happy home for life with the other cats in the center. Unfortunately, at the time of this review, KittyKind was fully occupied and could not accept any new cats or kittens until finding homes for the ones already taken in.
At the KittyKind website, potential owners can peruse photos of the cats and kittens available for adoption. You can rest easy when you adopt an animal from KittyKind because the staff tests all their cats and kittens for FELV (feline leukemia) and FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). KittyKind also vaccinates and neuters or spays all incoming cats.
The cats at KittyKind have not been kept in cages, as in some shelters, but in volunteer foster homes where they have had a chance to become accustomed to humans and other cats. The volunteers at KittyKind also take the time to get to know the personalities of the cats they are trying to place. So if you share with them what you are looking for in a cat, chances are they can match you with that perfect feline companion.
KittyKind is a small, all-volunteer operation and welcomes donations of both time and money. If you are interested in donating either, please visit their website or give them a call.
Pros: Centrally-located, no-kill shelter. The loving staff gets to know cats’ individual personalities to place them in ideal homes.
Cons: Small, fully-occupied facility—but only due to lack of resources.
