New Zootoo Feature July 24

Dear Zootooers,

We have launched new features last night as well as site improvements you asked for in Journals. Let's start from the new features:

1) We have launched Classifieds! This is intended for users to trade pet stuff; post and find pet related jobs; and list or help find a lost pet.
We feel this will be used by many zootooers, but we need your help to keep unwanted "spam" posts of pets for sale from puppy mills. We all know they will try to use it, but that's when our community reacts by flagging inappropriate use of our beloved web-site. Together, we'll make them go away...

2) We launched Zootoo.com Angels. We are now providing shelters with the ability to recognize Pet Professionals by making them Zootoo.com Angels. The thinking behind is to help shelters with a new bargaining tool to get more free services out of pet professionals. If a vet or a groomer wants Zootoo Angels they "better" give free services to their local shelter or their manager won't assign them the new Zootoo Angel badge. Only shelter managers have this right, not users.

FEATURE IMPROVEMENTS:

a) By now, you know that groups can also be private. We added group discussion notifications. Everytime, there is a new discussion created in your group, group members will be notified. As usual, we took care of privacy. If you don't want to receive those emails from your group anymore, you can opt-out in MyZooToo > Account & Privacy > Notifications All the groups you below are listed and you can select which one you want to stop or continue receive new discussions alerts.

b) Many pet products can be now purchased on Zootoo through Petco.com. When you see a product on Zootoo.com the buy button will bring you to a related Petco page.

Many new and exciting features are upcoming, including video contests starting next week and more than 60,000 pet related books...

Stay tuned and as usual all feedback is welcome...

I think part of the reason there are inappropriate classifieds is because Zootoo failed to give explicit instructions of what IS appropriate and what is prohibited (except regarding breeders and "puppy mills"). Some people will abuse the ad section even if there are clear guidelines on what is appropriate, but most will respect the rules and not advertise an unacceptable item.

Currently, there is an ad for the "LitterHouse" (litter box)--which appears to be a business trying to get FREE advertising to boost its sales. There is nothing that I saw in the "classifieds" section that explicitly forbids this, but I don't think the "classifieds" were meant to be used by businesses (even if these businesses are owned by Zootooers). How can people follow the expectations if they don't know what they are?

The ability to post a free ad under the "classifieds" section is a privilege and should be treated as such. Perhaps Zootoo could reduce the number of unwanted/inappropriate ads by requiring posters to have a higher Zootoo status (i.e., a status higher than Zoocomer). This would prevent people from joining for the sole purpose of posting a free ad and give Zoocomers an opportunity to see what Zootoo is about before they are even eligible to use the "classifieds". This may not eliminate the problem, but it could minimize it.

In short, is it possible to use Zootoo status levels to allow certain privileges (e.g., posting classified ads; unlimited messages)?

Agreed! I think the classifieds are a great idea but there are changes that need to be made! Please read my journal about it! Thanks! www.zootoo.com/journals_j_general/zootooclassifiedsneedstobechan_MeepsandMunch
