Supporting Shelter: Habitat For Horses
Pros: Operational, Clinical, Marketing, Fundraising Techniques....MOST IMPORTANTLY...Love, True Passion for Those They Save and Protect!
Cons: None that I am aware of.....
As a resident of NE Oklahoma, I am proud to say that our State is privileged to have this rescue and its' devoted staff and volunteers to look after the precious gifts we know as the horses.
We have a limited number of purely equine rescues here, and culturally, horses in OK are predominantly (NOT ALL!!) managed as working horses with the sole purpose of doing a job. I've seen a veterinarian I know quite well one day and he seemed so very uncharacteristically tired. I of course asked why, and in short he said, "Sometimes I just become so discouraged when I must deal with those who believe if "The injury/etc. isn't close enough to the heart, what will be, will be.". SICK.
Anyway, I'm hopeful that this Rescue is successful in raising additional funds to help manage the absolute CRISIS situation existing here and elsewhere. Transport of horses to Mexico and Canada from 5-6 large, powerful, wealthy stockyards who are now making exponentially more money than they probably every dreamed of. I won't drone on, but will probably put up another post on this subject.
My hope is that we can find a few good folks to work on the situation in OK, and my first stop is MidAmerica Stockyards, in Bristow, OK!
Again, a super Rescue that will be in my thought and prayers.
