Lab Rescue OK, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which was started 10 years ago by one very dedicated individual. Since our inception we have rehomed over 1,000 Labrador Retrievers. Even though we are located in Tulsa, we also work with shelters and individuals in surrounding states. Lab Rescue does not have an office and all of our Labbies are housed in one of our very dedicated and loving foster homes. Our fosters evaluate the Labs in their care and learn each one's individual personality traits to allow us to match the right Lab with the right forever home to ensure a successful future for all.
We pull our Labbies from area kill-shelters and accept owner surrenders. When a dog is brought into the program he is immediately taken to a vet for a thorough examination and receives all vaccinations and is heartworm checked. We pride ourselves on the fact that even though we are a small rescue, we will never turn down a Labbie because of a serious medical condition, if that condition can be corrected to give the animal the chance at a happy future. We have treated many heartworm positive dogs as well as provided numerous orthopedic surgeries for the Labbies in our program. We also have our own private Linus Fund which is a fund dedicated to providing financial assistance to anyone that has adopted a lab from us that develops orthopedic conditions requiring surgery after the adoption. We also have several trainers that volunteer with our organization that assist us with training issues and have successfully re-trained numerous Labs with serious socialization issues to allow these Labs to be successfully adopted to forever homes.
We hold adoption events each Saturday, showing at local Petco, Petsmart and Southern Agriculture stores. We use an extensive application process to adopt our Labbies to their forever homes. We require vet checks on potential adopters prior to approval of the application to ascertain that all animals in the adoptive home (past and present) are kept current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative. Adopters must have a fenced yard and they must also agree to keep the new family member inside the house with them anytime they are home so that he/she knows they are part of the family and not just put in the yard and forgotten. Labs are very people oriented and need this constant personal interaction. Adopters must also agree to return the Lab to Lab Rescue should they ever be in the position they are not able to keep the Lab.
