Finally, a rescue that deals with adult animals!

Pros: Great staff, wonderful animals, terrific idea!

Cons: The shelter needs money to build a permanent sanctuary

Review Details

Young At Heart is filling the niche that is so absent in the rescue and shelter areas--a place where you can rescue adult and senior animals. Too many shelters set a cut-off age for animals they will rescue (normally 5 years old). However, with people downsizing to condos from homes and others who are physically unable to care for their adult pet, this is an underserved population in Illinois. The people at Young At Heart take extra care to ensure the animals are in the best possible health, and are completely up front with any ailments prior to adoption. As an owner of three adult dogs from shelters, I can say without hesitation that an adult pet is the best way to go! In most cases, the dog or cat is adjusted to living in a home and has experience with children and other animals. Not only that, but most come fully housetrained! You never get that kind of background from a puppy or kitten.

With life expectation of dogs and cats getting longer, an adult animal can be a wonderful long-term addition to your family, and I highly recommend checking out the rescue's website to see the dogs and cats available for adoption. www.yahpetrescue.com
