The HAWC shelter needs a makeover.

Pros: Volunteers and staff work very hard to find homes for pets.

Cons: The shelter is old and too small.

Review Details

I've been volunteering with the Humane Assn. of Wilson County for over 8 years. I've never worked with a more dedicated and passionate group of people. The building itself is old and is literally falling down around us but the people inside are caring and compassionate. The shelter is open six days a week and volunteers have dogs at PETSMART every Sunday. Cats are also available for adoption at PETSMART seven days a week in addition to those at the shelter who can be seen six days a week. The website is one of the best you'll find and we're very fortunate to have two professional photographers who take our dog and cat pictures. Go to www.hawconline.com

I have been voluntering with the shelter for a couple of years now. The voluneteers work very hard in keeping the shelter clean and the shelter is very old and needs a makeover really bad. You can only do so much with paint to try and make it look a little better. The HAWC helps so many other counties with the spay station. Please come visit for yourself, and we can always use more volunteers.

I am thinking about becomimg a volunteer...as long as the people are great and I get to work with animals, things are fine. :)
