A State-of-the-Art Animal Shelter
Review Details
Recently, my Girl Scout Troop (I'm a co-leader) and I took a tour of this facility that was just opened in 2001. This no-kill shelter is one of the most amazing buildings I've been in. Although for us, going to the North Hills is a little drive, (there are about four other shelters in the Pittsburgh area - all of which I've personally been in) it's worth going just for the experience. Surrounded in a park-like atmosphere, this building doesn't look or act like your typical animal shelter. It sports walking trails for the animals, classrooms for things like our tour and programs they hold, and even an upscale gift shop. But don't let the extravagance fool you. There are tons of very knowledgable volunteers, interaction rooms and yes, very happy animals. Their website is www.animal-friends.org .
