Black Forest Animal Sanctuary

Black Forest Animal Sanctuary www.bfasfarm.org is a great small farm doing wonderful things. They placed hundreds of cats, dogs, horses, etc. All volunteers and needs help with funding. Main barn burned down.

Pros: volunteers with good heart, places lots of animals of all types

Cons: needs funding for shelter improvements

The Black Forest Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1997 by Tracy (Huddock) Van Pelt. The doors were opened to the public in 2001 as a non-profit animal shelter. There animals await adoption or foster care in the no-kill facility where they are cared for. If an animal cannot be placed, it lives out its life at the farm.

On the 40-acre farm there are some 20 horses, 15 dogs, 10 cats, 7 goats, 6 hens and rosters, and several adorable bunnies. There is also Charlie the cow, a pig named Wilbur, and a cockatoo.

The farm is patterned after the Best Friends Sanctuary of Kanub, UT. It is solely dependent on volunteers for funding and help at the farm. There's always a need for walking dogs, gooming and riding horses, or sholving out a pen.

Pros: The sanctuary is dedicated to loving kindness and care for all creatures.

Cons: They are totally dependent on volunteer assistance and donations.
