I have adopted two Shelties from the Houston Sheltie Sanctuary. The rescue dogs are always placed with foster families before they are available for adoption. Home inspections are required before they allow them to be adopted.
The members of the Houston Sheltie Sanctuary offered me a lot of support when I lost my Brodie to cancer.

Cons: There are never enough permanent homes for the older dogs.
