I really like WWR!
posted 3 years ago
I adopted from WWR almost two years ago. This was my first experience with a rescue. I was on petfinder and fell in love with the picture of a little white puppy. I immediately put in an application to WWR and specifically for this dog. Within two days I got an approval email asking me to call them to confirm that I am interested in this particular dog and they would hold her at their next event (this was before they had their Niles center). I called right away and the volunteer laughed about how quickly I responded. When I got to the event, they first gave us a tutorial about the adoption process and caring for new puppies (at the time I just wanted to see my new dog, but I am grateful for the time they took to do this). All the dogs were in a back room and the people who had dogs held were the first to go in. It was very professional and it was surprisingly calm. They also kept the room clean and made sure to wash the floor after each puppy and family were done interacting. After I met my new dog and fell in love, we finalized all of the paperwork and they gave me a bunch of helpful information. I also got a free first time puppy exam from a Chicago veterinarian, which was also a great experience. I was very impressed with this organization and another great thing about it is that they rescue most if not all of their animals from southern IL and then put them in quarantine to monitor their health and try to keep them from passing diseases from one to another. My puppy did have giardia, but besides that, her health has been perfect in the two years she has been with us. The only complaint I do have is that I have not received any follow up phone calls to check up on my dog. Even though my dog is in a good home, that worries me about other animals that may not be as lucky. But I would highly recommend this rescue to anyone thinking about adoption.
Pros: Helpful staff, well run events, they have a quarantine center, great adoption process
Cons: No follow up
