Great community presence

posted 5 years ago

Happy Labs seems to be everywhere! The name is well known and publicity is well done. As we all know, the more people hear of a rescue the more rescues/placements that can be done. Well done folks!

Pros: Getting their name out!

Cons: None

Monty the want to be driver lab

posted 6 years ago

Monty is a lab that I transported from the HSMC to Happy Labs Rescue in Columbus IN. Monty had heartworms and Happy Labs Rescue still took him in and had him treated.

Monty wanted to drive, but I would not let him since he was not old enough yet.

I met Mike and Edelle Rothrock with Happy Labs while they were at an adoption event. They are a couple of the nicest people you will ever met.

I hope some day I get to go over there again with a transport. I like working with friendly and loving rescues who care about the animals as much as I do.

----Below is an email to my wife and me from Happy Labs after dropping of Monty-----

Hi Betty,

Sure hope George made it home alright.

Here is a picture that George can put on his website of him and Monty in Columbus, Indiana.

Thank you both for working with us to get Monty to Columbus.

Monty is an absolute love. Loves kids of all ages. And seems to listen very well.

Everyone loved him at the adoption event. This little boy was playing with him thru the crate. And when we took him out Monty melted into his lap. Had a toy that he put into his lap and then laid there and played with it. They must have sat there for over 20 minutes and played.

His mom cried because she said he loved animals so much but she was a single working mom with two kids and just could not afford a dog.

Told her we understood but maybe he could come out to the rescue to help in other ways. Said she would give us a call. Sure hope she does.

When I told the boy that Monty had heartworms the boy sat there and told me al! l about them. Said he reads alot about dogs from the internet. One very smart little boy. Sure hope he follows his heart - will make a darn good vet and an even better rescue person.

Monty loves to ride and be with people. Loves to follow my husband around everywhere. We will be taking him into Wal-Mart and Mernards tomorrow. To see how he interacts with others while having to behave.

Plays ball put does not want to give the ball up. And loves to take a bone throw it in the air and then bark at it. Then he will roll all over it and just growl at it. You laugh so hard tears come to your eyes.

He was out playing today with Lily a flat coat retriever we have. They would just rub up against each other and then take off running.

He would get to coughing and we would have to make him slow down just so his heart would slow down.

Will introduce him to each dog one day at a time so as not to overwhelm him.

Will keep you updated a! s he goes through his heartworm treatment and send pictures as! we take them.

He is one very special dog that is going to make some family very happy. He is an absolute love.

Now on a sad note - we was doing a transport back in Jan of 2006. Picking up some puppies from a shelter up in northern Indiana.

A man had brought in an older dog who he said he no longer wanted.

When we got there the staff was telling us about "her" and was not sure what they were going to do with such an old dog.

No one would ever take this dog being 10 -12 years old. She could hardly walk because of her hips. Almost like sometime in her life she had been hit by a car.

Well we took her knowing she would never make it out alive.

Miss Penny went to the rainbow bridge last night at the age of 13. She was cremated and brought home today. She will go into our office as the first rescue dog that left us. She was one of the lucky ole souls who wasvery much loved. She died peacefully in my arms as I cried li! ke a baby and told her I loved her to go on and go run and play with the others that was waiting for her. She will never be forgotten and missed deeply.

Again thank you and George both for helping Monty get to us.
