Its not easy being Little Shelter

posted 7 years ago

Its not easy being Little Shelter. The work they do there is absolutley remarkable! But yet, they hardly get the recognition they deserve! I went to another very well known "shelter" to adopt an "abused" pup rescued from a puppy mill. I was told the application process would be very extensive, as they were trying to place the pups in homes that are best suited for pups with traumatic backgrounds and extreme fear of humans. I have had experience with dogs with similar backgrounds and I have the ability to take my dogs to work with me--i thought i was the perfect candidate! I had glowing reccomendations from my vets etc. Needless to say, the application process went right out the window as soon as the checkbooks came out! They didnt care that these poor animals would be placed in homes that are not suited for them! It was all about the money. THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN AT LITTLE SHELTER! They would never release an unsocialized pet to a family in hopes of making it a christmas present for kids-- not for any amount of money! Even though they could DEFINATELY use the money, they care more about the wellfare of the animals. They do whats right, thats it.

I have been sending donations to the Little Shelter and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. They are so deserving and NEED IT! I check their website periodically and there are still so many dogs that have been there for YEARS! I dont know of any other place that would keep these guys for over 5 years!

I hope you win this money! If not, maybe extreme home make-over can help :)

Pros: Staff

Cons: Not enough publicity

I have never met a more compassionate, loving group of people

posted 7 years ago

I just want to say that sometime in December, our dog (my Baby), Bear, got horribly sick. We did everything we could for her on our small budget but it was not good enough. We contacted Arlene at the Little Shelter and she arranged for Bear to go to their vet. Over the course of a few weeks, they did everything that they could to save my Baby although she was too sick. The Shelter and Dr. Liguori went above and beyond. Their compassion was unmatched by anyone I have ever met. Although it is still extremely hard to believe that Bear is gone, I know that we did everything that we could (along with Little Shelter) to get her well again.

Everyone at Little Shelter, from the bottom of my heart as well as my husband's heart, Thank you Thank you Thank you.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing
