Animal Haven Soho

Animal Haven is a no-kill rescue located on Centre St. in SoHo in New York City. Serving the local community since 1967, Animal Haven is one of the oldest and most respected rescue institutions in the city. In addition to the shelter/adoption center, it also operates a mobile rescue van and provides programs to build connections between humans and animals.

One of those programs is Caring Kids, which educates teens and children about animal welfare issues that are important to their community as well as teaches them the basics of caring for a pet. Animal Haven actively seeks to place the pets it rescues in homes as soon as possible, so the fees for adopting an animal are in the low hundreds of dollars and include vaccinations, spaying and/or neutering. All animals that Animal Haven takes in are screened for behavior problems and given a thorough medical exam before being put up for adoption.

As with any shelter/rescue center, the backbone of Animal Haven are its volunteers. Volunteers provide much needed care to the animals that Animal Haven rescues and perform a wide variety of services including walking the animals, bathing them, assisting potential adopters and socializing animals to ease their transition into a new home. Animal Haven happily accepts donations in a number of forms and more information can be found on their website about different ways to donate.

Animal Haven also rents out their indoor facility for various events and/or training programs or even if you are just looking for an indoor space to have a run/play with your dog on a rainy day. For specific rates and policies, I recommend that you contact the shelter.
