Waggytail Rescue Focuses on Small Dog Rehabilitation and Care
July 8, 2010 7:50 am | By Zootoo Editor Flinn D.
Waggytail Rescue is a no-kill shelter in New York that is unique for its focus on rescuing and rehabilitating small dogs. The shelter primarily rescues dogs that city shelters do not have the resources to care for—or those dogs that have been disregarded, injured or are scheduled to be euthanized.
The folks at Waggytail Rescue care passionately about not just rescuing dogs, but also finding them the right home. Some of the dogs that have been rescued require special care, and others are completely rehabilitated and ready for action. Either way, Waggytail believes in a rigorous screening process to make sure the shelter is sending their dogs on to a happy forever home. With this in mind, Waggytail uses a detailed application that seeks to determine an applicant's qualifications and experience when it comes to caring for a pet.
Waggytail welcomes volunteers and donations and is always looking for potential foster homes. Being a foster dog-parent means caring for dogs while Waggytail tries to find them a home. As a foster parent, you are responsible for caring for the dog, making the dog available for visits, and keeping in regular touch with Waggytail about any personality traits the dog shows.
In order to assure that pets are in excellent health, Waggytail spays or neuters all the animals in their care and insures that their tests and vaccinations are kept up to date. To see the dogs that Waggytail has available for adoption, please visit their website at waggytailrescue.org (and while you are there, be sure to check out the t-shirts for sale, designed especially for the shelter by Moby!).
Pros: Dedicated staff, concentrates rescue and rehabilitation efforts on small dogs.
Cons: None.

Cosmo has a home because of Waggytail
posted 4 years ago
Our pup, Godzilla, was about 9 months old when we decided to start looking for the final member of our pack. Once I saw his big ears on Petfinder, I was instantly in love. The foster mom with Waggytail knew our situation and was willing to work with us to ensure Cosmo and Godzilla were able to get along. The were also extremely helpful after the adoption when we had questions about Cosmo's history. I can't imagine our pack without Cosom (AKA, Brad). Thank you so much.
Pros: Knowledgable and are familiar with temperments.
Cons: None

I just worked with Waggytails - I was a foster for a rescue chi/mix. What an amazing group of people. They were always in contact with me, were there to support me through every part of the adoption process and its clear they do this because they love dogs.
Waggytails ROCKS.
Pros: Awesome group of people doing their part to help out
Cons: There are too many dogs to be rescued not enough foster homes

I LOVE MOOSHOES! I might be the only Montanan who email-orders non-leather shoes from New York, and I'm proud of it. A business that saves animals from being turned into clothing items by selling top-… more ›
