Rescue is heartbreaking never ending work
posted 3 years ago
I agree with the person that talks about how HSO is a two person rescue and you have no idea about what it takes to rescue animals unless you have done it. If more people would step up and foster they could and would save so many more dogs and cats.I have fostered for years and these ladies will do anything to save a life and sometimes actually many times they take in animals that noone else will rescue, ones that are sick or old or just the so called less adoptables...and they don't ask huge fees for the dogs many times infact they pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a dog for medical fees and only get 100-150 for that same dog for adoption. I urge all those that complain try rescue for a week hell try for a day and then tell me how easy pulling animals off death row is. And to the person that complained that their foster came with kennel cough, these dogs come off transport with a health certificate, how is HSO supposed to know they have kennel cough, with that said I've had a foster with kennel cough got ahold of HSO and immediately took the dog to the vet no questions asked. Have there been bumps in the road, yeah but I know Pam spends every waking hour transporting, caring for and loving these animals and does so much for these animals. This is a small recue group that goes way above and beyond. Please instead of complaining maybe try to have some compassion for those out there saving lives every single day.
Pros: willing to pull any dog to save their life
Cons: small group

I had been watching this organization for almost a year trying to figure out how to help. I donated money and I helped in the transport of two mother dogs and their pups from North Carolina to D.C.
I also rescued a dog from Help Save One and when I have room in my heart and my home I will do so again.
Help Save One is not a huge rescue organization like the HSPCA, it is a handful of people doing their best to save as many dogs as they can.
Pros: Their hearts are in the right place
Cons: They don't have enough employees

I adopted a 5 month old lab/border collie from them in Sept 2010 and she is the best dog I have ever had. The communication part was very tough...I would email them and not hear from them for days at a time but I did finally hear from them and all went well...The original dog I picked kept getting stalled but that had nothing to do with Marissa at all....we had origianlly picked a 7 year old lab but it didnt work out so Marissa told us about a 5 month old lab mix that was coming on trasport the next morning and we decided to go for it and all i can say is I LOVE MY dog...her name is Precious and she is so Precious....so I say Thank you to Marissa....They try hard and do what they can.
Pros: Their hrearts are in the right place
Cons: Communication was tough
