Pros: easy to get and keep
Cons: hard outer shell can cause impactions
Mealworms are usually not the best feeder for most reptiles. They have a hard outer shell that can cause impactions because a reptile's digestive system is not able to digest or pass the hard shell. The mealworms on their own have little nutritional value. The larger ones also bite! Use care when choosing a feeder insect for your reptile. Most prefer crickets or worms. They are easier to digest and are less likely to cause harm to your reptile.
