Hi There, thank you for posting your comments. In the majority of all animal shelters cats/kittens getting a URI (upper respiratory infection) can be a common thing. They are largely populated with them and the cats/kittens can develop this from the stressful situation that they are going through. They are being brought into a strange environment where there are many other animals and then when adopted have to learn to make a brand new adjustment and unfortunately some of the cats/kittens develop the URI from the stress that they are going through or they have been exposed to it before coming to the shelter or may also get exposed to it during their stay at a shelter too. Some animals don't show any signs of this until they are in a home environment. Staff at the shelters try to catch them but a lot of them don't have vets on staff. Shelters do not intentionally send home sick animals. It's hard to understand this unless you've worked in this type of environment. Some shelters will offer to help out with any medical expenses that maybe involved in the treatment of the URI too if they are aware of it. Hope this helps answer your questions. Thank you. Read Less
