I totally agree with giving chocolate versus the real thing. After my daughter's first hamster died on her birthday last December, we went to the pet store to pick out a new one. We got a female instead of a male and had a huge surprise after we had her for a couple of weeks. She was pregnant - she had 6 babies, but only 5 survived. I was fortunate enought to be able to take the babies back to the pet store because we had only planned for 1 hamster, not 6 (we have 2 cats too). Animals are a huge responsibility and that's something people need to keep in mind when deciding whether to give a pet as a present. Read Less
