This is good to know - I have tried clickers in the past, but for one of my dogs, the noise is just too much, and he winces every time it is clicked:( Not much of a reward like that! I will have to look into this clicker.

the shelter is there to help the unfortunate lives due to a societal problem - a community problem. The reason all these animals exist is becuase of irresponsible people (not keeping their animals for life, not spaying and neutering, and putting animals out when they no longer want to care for them). They take who comes to the door, and yes, not all of the animals are adopted out. Is it responsible to adopt out a biting dog, or a dog that has obviously been in dog fights??? Is that best for the community? Should the animals really sit there for years on end waiting for a home - is that fair. Who is going to volunteer to take all the feral cats into their home - cats who have NEVER had human contact and are scared to death of people??? I don't like euthanasia either - solving the root of the problem would help to eliminate it. Adopting out EVERY animal no matter what is not the solution.
You are demanding low cost spay and neuter - the prices are set by the veterinarians - who went to school for a long time to do what they do. They graciously offer low cost services to the SHELTER - an organization (not individuals) trying to help the animals that the societal problem has created.
I think people are cheap. $100 - $150 for a spay - less for a neuter - is not that much. How much do you spend on yourself when you go out to eat, a haircut - a car payment every month? A brand new car payment is at least $300 - people pay $500-$600 for a car payment each month - for an object. Set aside a little money for a month or two - or cut back on something for the month and most will have the money to spay or neuter. It is a matter of value - and animals are just not valued in this country. Trust me - you have no idea what a bargain it is for pet health care - people have insurance for themselves - so they have no idea. I don't know why people expect the shelter to take care of their financial issues. Don't get a pet if you cannot afford one!!!
And on the comment of salary for the executive director - she is a wonderful woman who lives a modest life. Her life is the animals and their welfare; their best interest is what she cares about. She gives a lot of herself...afterall - she deals with people such as yourself - and does it with a smile - I am sure she is not paid nearly enough for that. Read Less
