I have seen a lot of dogs that have come to our shelter so fearful of people at first, yet each has overcome that with the help of our great staff and volunteers. Cats and do… read more

Both you and Riley have to be comfortable. Try one of those gloves with the nubs on them. Then it's more like your petting him. Then move up to a curry type brush, again just like your petting him. Af… read more

Actually they do not have a good relationship. Look under the News-Times archives for the many problems between the two. DAWS has had many objections to so many dogs being killed that otherwise would have been adopted. In 2001 the PD announced it would draw up guidelines for a 7 day waiting period before any dog was put down. In charlie farrar's own words, it was a political ploy to take the heat off. When volunteers objected to a dog being killed in 2007, they were banned and threatened with arrest if they went to the newspaper. markie boughton then lied and said they would be reinstated. Of coarse they never were. The kennels are usually filthy and little if any medical treatment was ever given to the dogs. When medical issues were brought up to the staff, they were ignored. Check into Feb. 3rd 2008 Newstimes front page. This place is no better than the pounds down south. In the time I volunteered there I can't recall there being any arrests for abuse because it would require too much paper work. I'm not making this up, look into News-Times archives. Read Less
