Older pets and esp. those with special needs do show their gratitude once they are adopted. In addition, the pet owner will see a living being overcome extensive obstacles -- and they will be inspired and experience a deeper love for all living beings.
In my experience with KittyKind, Rational Animal, both in NYC, and with my own special needs cats, I have realized that pets with disabilities, that may be euthanized at many shelters, can acutally present and foster a unique human-animal relationship uncommon to what most people picture when they think of a typical pet.
Thank you for highlighting your Charlie Brown and the great rewards of owning an older and/or "extra special" pet.
