In Memory of Juicy Fruit 's Details

Type: Small pet | Breed: Guinea Pig / Teddy Guinea Pig | Born: Jan, 2002 | Gender: Female

In Memory of Juicy Fruit

Pet War Standings: 26 wins | 4 losses | rank: 15092

Description: I adopted Juicy Fruit and her sister Gumdrop after a teddy breeder passed away and her guinea pigs were taken in at the rescue I volunteer with. She liked to barber her sister so I had to separate the two. Juicy Fruit was the feistier of the two, but a sweetheart, nonetheless. I didn't know their birthdates but I guessed they were older. I really loved her and her sister. I still miss her.

My mouse (no, not "mouse") pad

I miss my girls

Posted in General

My husband made this mouse pad for me two years ago. It features twins Juicy Fruit on the left and Goody Goody Gumdrop on the right. Steiff Swinny is in front of them. Juicy Fruit and Gumdrop were relatives of Pikachu. They all came in to our rescue from a teddy breeder who passed away. Sadly, The twins died within months of each other. Gumdro… read more

Basic Guinea PIg Care

Posted in Health & Wellness

Guinea pigs are prey animals. They instinctively try to hide illnesses to minimize their chance of being singled out by prey. Proper care and keeping an eye out for changes in behavior and physical appearance can often be a signal that they are ill. Guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C. Lack of it can lead to scurvy. A listless anima… read more

There is an interesting article in the 12-14-08 front page of the Daily Herald, Dupage County Focus edition that looks at the emotional toll of losing a pet. The man featured in the story lost two of his dogs within two years of each other. He said noticed that the loss of a pet has little recognition in our society. He is among a growing numb… read more

One of the recent journals asked whether you remembered all of your pets names. I think I do, plus I remember a lot about my grandparent's pets, too. My dad raised rabbits and canaries as a kids, but I remember the two dogs his brother and parents had when we would visit: Blackie and Skippy. Blackie was a big black dog, very friendly. My unc… read more

My Chirping Piggie

Posted in Behavior & Training

I've read about chirping guinea pigs. They suddenly, out of nowhere, start warbling like a canary or a parrot...or whatever. But, I never experienced the sound until a few years ago. My first chirper was Ginger, a guinea pig I adopted from our local shelter. She only chirped during the night, when it was dark. It was so loud, it woke up our… read more
