I would like to suggest that it was the owner's love that sustained the dog for so long, and, while it is sad that the dog probably suffered, we should apply a little perspective here; we're talking about less than two months out of 17 good years.
Finally, I think you'd really have to be there and see the dog to state with certainty that the owners were negligent or uncaring about their suffering dog. A particularly stoic dog could get to that end stage without showing any signs of suffering. If that's the case, at what point do you draw the line? It's a difficult question. Read Less
