I'm sorry about your dad, but it sounds llike his quality of life was greatly enhanced by having a pet. I can't help but wonder whether she died of a broken heart when she lost him.
Yes. They really care that you get enough time to make the right choice of your pet. This must help to prevent alot of the animals from becoming homeless again later.

A couple of weeks ago, my sister lost one of her dogs. She had just gotten the dog after her owner died, so she didn't know her way around. Also, there was a pretty bad blizzard that night and my sister was out looking until 3AM.
She called the Erie Cty. SPCA to give her name in case the dog was brought in. It made me furious .....they just kept telling her "we don't take that kind of information". Unbelievable! I don't think they would present themselves that way on TV!

Everybody needs to understand the no-kill nature of this shelter(actually a sanctuary) and how they lose funding by refusing to euthanize. Other SPCA's are paid for each euthanasia, so it is actually a source of income for them.
