A favorite with my feline family members

Panleukopenia is a devastating disease with almost 100% mortality rate in cats under 6 months old. I work in a vet hospital and we had 3 kittens die from this during the summer. I feel sorry for the shelter workers for having to go through this. … Read More
Unfortunately, most shelters do not have the space or money to care for pets that would need to be kept in isolation for 1-2 weeks to be sure they are disease free. Shelters vaccinate cats that come in in the hopes that the cat is disease free when vaccinated. The vaccine will do nothing for cats that are already incubating the disease. It is an effort to kept health problem at a minimum, but like most things it is not a guarantee.
This could easily happen to anyone. How many people find a stray kitten/cat and take it home and introduce it to their other cats? Pretty much every client at our vet hospital has. I learned a long time ago to quarantine, its not worth risking your other pets' health. Read Less
