Barbara R. (BarbaraRushman) in Fundraising
I'm fortunate enough to have a lot of businesses willing to support the Hounds and Harriers Run. Here are a few more: "Camp Gone to the Dogs". I've been participating in Camp for more than 10 years now and it is more fun than you can imagine. Fun willed days doing things with your dog in beautiful Vermont. We like fall camp (in Stowe) although … read more

If you ever came to St H shelter you would be surprised at how small it is. I've never been to the one in Somerset County (we merged with Somerset Humane a number of years ago) but the Madison shelter is small. And the shelter is pretty old, being donated in 1939, the building goes back to 1020 or earlier. There is maybe a dozen runs for adult dogs and 4 puppy pens. (Plus areas in the back for quaranteen and potentially agressive dogs we are watching or those involved in pending court cases). We do animal control for about 27 towns in Morris, Somerset and some in Essex. We just broke ground for a $15 million expansion which will triple our shelter capacity and house a dog training school (currently in a rented building in Madison). We have been working 6-7 years to raise the funds and still are only about 1/2 way. Building will stop when we run out of money. Hope they get at least part of the shelter complete that is most vital and maybe leave the school and other less essentials till last. Our only dog visiting room doubles as a kitchen. We have a reputation for state of the art, but we really aren't. But we do have lots of volunteers so the shelter makes a good impression because it is clean, etc. Good luck in your funding quest.
