A wise friend of mine put it well last year when I lost my Max. She said, "The hole in your heart will never go away, but you'll get better at stepping around it." It has been almost a year since I lost him to bloat. He was 14 and in poor health and I just couldn't put him through the surgery so my husband and I put him to sleep. We both talk to his ashes on a regular basis and I had a special box made with his picture and a lid so I can still "pet" him. So, you're not alone in what you do, there are others of us out there that feel the same way. I don't look at it as not letting go, just how I keep him in my heart. Max was such a special dog that my friends wanted to do something in his memory so we had a party. I created a video with pictures, words and the videos I had made with him in it. Doing that helped my grief. If you want a good cry, watch "Angels Among Us" and for a laugh watch "Private Malone" in my zoo (amanda4max).

Gus may be gone from the physical world but he will obviously never be forgotten. That is what is important! Even when I "fall" into the hole in my heart that Max left at unexpected moments it just means he is still with me and always will be. It still hurts but Max was worth every pain.
