Fortunately, their basic instincts of loyalty and the concept of working together for the good of the pack (inherited from their wolf ancestors) haven't been altogether bred out of them. 1.) The Dog fighting trio got bail set at only $2,500. What a Joke!!! They probably make more than that on one fight. That kind of bail payout doesn't affect them one bit, and after Michael Vics arrest and the heightened sense of outrage towards this crime, these three know that they aren't going to catch a break in court, so I wouldn't be surprized if they break bail and run, which leaves them open to abusing more dogs down the line. The laws need to be tougher and the bail way way higher like $25,000 or more even.

As for the Cock fighting, shame on California! I am a fifth generation Californian and I had no idea that this animal cruelty crime was only a misdemeanor. Animal Control Officers for their thoughtful examination of the circumstances, BUT REALLY! These dogs, (and all dogs for that matter,) deserve to have one on one "relationships" with loving humans. I don't care how well you know their names, one person cannot provide a loving "nurturing" environment to even 50 dogs, let alone 300! They deserve to get out of those cages at least once a day and be walked, and played with. They deserve to be able to do what nature intended dogs to do, run, sniff, lay in the sun and play outdoors at least once in a while. This is a emotionally difficult case but the courts should really limit her to 10 dogs tops. If the AKC yanked her kennel license, the state or county should too. She should be limited to the number of dogs she can provide reasonable "normal" loving living conditions to.
I know this will be very very hard on her but in the long run, she may find that she has a much more rewarding relationship with her 10 dogs than she has ever had in the last 40+ years of having too many. That's my 2 cents. Read Less

There is no question in my mind that dogs are intuitive beyond our own abilities. I have also found that the dogs I've adopted
who were previously mistreated, seem to be more "thankful" and devoted than the purebreds I have paid big bucks for and raised with all the comforts a dog could wish for. As is often the case with children, the ones who've had it tough seem to be more aware of, and appreciate the little things more than the ones born with silver spoons in their mouths.

Unfortunately, we don't have a naturally balanced environment any longer. Wolf populations need to be controlled BUT, I strongly feel that this should ONLY be done by fish and game officials under very tight
restrictions! To completely lift the ban on killing wolves to the general public, will surely end in disaster for the wolves. First you've got a lot of Ranchers who will not only kill the wolf they find eating one of their animals, but finally given the chance, they will happily take out the whole pack not wanting to take the chance that the killing ban will be reinstated. ( I want to clarify here that I'm not saying EVERY Rancher would do this, but I know several personally who would) Then you've got plenty of big game hunters who just want to add a wolf to their "Brag Bag". Since they have been previously denied this "trophy", there will be no lack of gunners paying guides or going out on their own to track and kill a wolf. These "tracked" wolves may or may not have ever been a threat to livestock or come near a human habitation. President Bush is short sighted and ill-informed at best, and what in the heck is he even wasting time on this wolf issue for, when the world (not to mention the USA) is falling to pieces around him on his watch? I live near NYC and am often in the area of central park where I have seen these carriages lined up. I always give a horse or two a scratch between the ears. I have a couple of things to say. First, the horses look to be in good condition. Second, I see alot of carriages lined up all the time and very few ever with customers so I guess buisiness is pretty bad. Third, I agree that the streets of NYC are not a fit place for horses to have to manuever (for that matter it's not a healthy environment for humans either.) The traffic is crazy, loud and dangerous. BUT, I
also hate to see long time traditions die. Perhaps both groups could win by only allowing the horse carriages in the park proper where they would be safer, and be less incongruous to say the least. I can see both sides of the story and both have valid points to argue. I believe there is a way to make this work for everyone.
