Type: Reptile | Breed: Green Iguana | Born: Aug 4, 2002 | Gender: Female
Pet War Standings: 397 wins | 114 losses | rank: 33
Nicknames: Gnarlita, Mrs Tuvolt
Description: Gnarla is so named as she was a bit "gnarled up" when I got her. I was working at a cat/dog animal shelter who had seized many animals from a bust at a drug house. There were 7 pit bull puppies + parents, a caiman, a cockatiel, a boa constrictor, and Gnarla--all in shameful condition, of course. She was malnourished, cold, and had some malformed fingers. Also, she was GRAVID! I got custody, built her up, got her spayed, and today she's healthy, happy & huge! Digs hanging out w/ Yaz.

Yes, that's a dramatic "headline" but it's basically what happened. I just spoke w/ a new local reptile fancier a few minutes ago, asking about Camo. (The little iguana he's been attempting to rescue from friends who weren't taking care of him properly.) I saw him in May, right after Gnarla's death--I swear, it was like a sign--and bro… read more

Yesterday I was feeling under the weather, so I left work early. However, it was the first lovely sunny day we've had in weeks, so I made sure to get Yaz outside for some rays. We both sat basking on the back patio, but since male iguanas tend to go into "season" twice a year (generally between April-June and October-December) they must… read more

I spoke w/ Dave Wednesday night and Lucy is home and recovering...although, if it isn't one thing, it's another! Apparently, before her surgery, she was not using her back legs much, perhaps as part of a pain-avoidance posture. Well, this obviously doesn't help matters if one is arboreal, and she may have taken a few spills from her perches befor… read more

I called up Dave last night who was very happy to report that his best girl made it through her 2 hr (!) surgery and is resting comfortably in his arms at home. He was exhausted--from the trips back 'n' forth to Tufts, from trying to modify her entire ROOM to minimize her desire to climb, from all the WORRY & ANXIETY--so we didn't chat long, b… read more

It's been a long day, I just got home from work about an hour ago. We were short handed today at work, and wound up doing about 30 spay-neuter surgeries. And, though I think cell phones are the scourge of humanity, I borrowed my roomie's, so that Dave could contact me about Lucy. He called at an absolutely perfect time--I had just … read more
