When we first got Desi, he was 4 months old so we crate trained him through the puppy chewing phase. Now that he is well trained and trusted he is on his bed next to Hunter. Read Less

For me it comes down to the grooming issue. I love them both but labs are just so much easier to manage. You can brush a lab in 5 minutes. Goldens need lots of grooming and so many are not groomed well and then they look terrible.
Both breeds are intelligent, easy to train and fun dogs to play and live with. I just prefer to spend my time training--hiking--swimming--and playing with my lab--then grooming! Good luck! Read Less
It is always hard to find a new normal after a loss.
Sounds like the rest of your critters will keep you busy and distracted. Fostering is a good way to share all that love you have for animals.

We have since gone on to more advanced training and in May 2008 he graduated an Advanced level off-leash class. He is now taking a Companion Dog--Competition obedience class. Dogs love to learn and Labs need to be focused and well trained. We enjoy the time together! Read Less
I would suggest you put her on-leash before opening the door and practice having her "sit" and "wait" before opening the door. Treat her each time she gets it and she will learn proper manners.
